OPPORTUNITY –Legislative platforms convey to legislators, policymakers, the public, and the media where organizations stand on important policy positions. Similar to a strategic plan, a legislative platform also provides a mechanism for staff and association members to “be on the same page” and better coordinate advocacy and lobbying. The County Behavioral Health Directors Association was interested in being transparent about their positions and supporting the larger county policy conversation.
RESULT –By committee, we were able to create an easy to understand and well-organized document to show partners and state leaders the most important issues. This platform was used during Capitol staff briefings, meeting with the Executive Branch, during lobby days, and other high-level meetings. Other organizations have used this as a best practice example and celebrate the fair and balanced approach with the content and visual appeal.
