2017 CBHDA Legislative Score Card_page-0001.jpg

OPPORTUNITY –A legislative scorecard is tool advocacy groups use to rank sitting legislators or candidates for legislative office on their voting record. Considering the leading issues of homelessness, mental health, and substance use were front and center, this was a good time to educate voters on the issues and how elected officials were supporting behavioral health.

RESULT –By creating priority areas and a transparent scoring system, we were able to rank and grade elected officials based on their voting records.  It helped advocates engage in ways to educate members on relevant legislation and allowed others to celebrate a good grade.  This first of its kind tool gave the broader community, including consumers and other nonprofits, a better view of who their behavioral health campions were.
